In accordance with the Ministry of Education and the Social Studies Curriculum guide, the Social Studies department, through the study of History, Geography, Indigenous Studies, Asian Studies and Law as the prime organizers of knowledge and learning, provide the opportunities for students to examine people in society as they interact with each other and with their environments.
The department focuses on using Canadian and world history organizers to accomplish this goal, and to attempt to make our students true citizens.
With the belief that the key to learning is the application of knowledge, the department members hope that the teaching of concept attainment, critical thinking, problem solving and analysis skills, will culminate in the learner’s ability to transfer knowledge to present day society.
The department has collaboratively and cooperatively worked towards creating skill-based, student-centered learning environments in order to promote and encourage the learners’ development towards understanding the current state of the world and becoming responsible and knowledgeable citizens.
