Traffic Concerns: Safety Over Convenience

Parents,

We understand with the road work being done in the surrounding neighborhood, drop- off and pick-up becomes more challenging. With that said we must still be cognizant of the 30km/hr speed limit around the school. We have had concerns raised by neighbors that parents are driving too fast in and around the school in the morning and afternoon.

The safety of all children and the neighbours must be our first priority.

Drop off and pick up (8 am to 5 pm) along Venables Street or Parker Street should be done on the school side of the street only and not exceed 5 minutes. We have been informed by the City of Vancouver that parking for any longer than 6 minutes during these posted hours may result in the driver receiving a ticket.

Dropping students off on the opposite side of the street can be very dangerous. When students are dropped off or picked up on the opposite side of the street, it is strongly advised that they cross the street at a crosswalk (Venables and Renfrew) or at the corner (Parker and Renfrew). It has been noted that with the road construction in the are there has been an increase in double parking and letting students out in the middle of the street. Please note this is a city violation that increases the risk of accidents and should be always avoided.

We appreciate your time is valuable and school drop-off and pick-up can be a frustrating experience. But we cannot use either as an excuse to create a dangerous situation. Regardless of the circumstance, safety will always be more important than convenience.

We thank you for your understanding and your anticipated cooperation with respect to this important reminder.
